DescriptionLyngenfjord House is a Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the quiet “green” village of Cape St Francis - at the most southern point of the Eastern Cape.
The name Lyngenfjord comes from the Norwegian Cargo Steamer which sank off our coastline in 1938. To read more about the ship click here.
Michael and Elza van Lingen, the owners, who retired from farming, entertain guests with true Eastern Cape hospitality in a family accommodation atmosphere. Here guests experience many typical South African traditions, especially at the lavish breakfasts.
Guests have spectacular, panoramic views of the beach and ocean from their bedroom accommodation, private balconies, both lounges, the dining area and the pool terrace – ideal for whale and dolphin watching. The antique Cape Dutch furniture, from the late 1800’s, complements and warms the spacious accommodation.
A Fynbos garden surrounds the house, boasting many plants of this rare and endangered plant group as well as those used for herbal and medicinal purposes.
Since January 2003 Lyngenfjord House was awarded 4 Star grading for its accommodation by the Tourism Grading Council of SA.
The tourist, who normally lives in a city and wishes to break away from a hectic jet-set life, will be pleasantly surprised by the natural beauty of Cape St Francis. The 3 km pristine beach between Seal Point and Cape St Francis, has a healing effect on the soul of the guest, who has had to rush through our great country to enjoy and see as much as possible in too short a time.
It is safe to swim and Seal Point is a world renowned surfing spot. The village is surrounded by four nature reserves. The walkways, clearly marked, present easy relaxing and refreshing walks along the coastline, round our famous historical lighthouse and more inland through the Irma Booysen Reserve.
There are many interesting activities locally – info on request.
Cape St Francis is the ideal base for nearby adventures and outings, which include canal and river cruises, visits to local game parks, as well as to Addo Elephant National Park and Shamwari private game reserve, a visit to the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area, the bread basket of the Kouga region at Hankey and Patensie, many cultural sites like Sara Baartman's grave and the Kouga Cultural Centre and the beauty and exhilarating adventures of Tsitsikamma.

Cape St Francis is also the ideal stop over to or from the Port Elizabeth Airport – a mere 115 km away.
Lyngenfjord House is accommodation recommended by the many European, Scandinavian, British and American guests who have stayed here. Their promise to return to South Africa always includes an extended stay with Michael and Elza at Lyngenfjord House.
